Card exchange cards - stamping, ribbon and a large layered greeting

I made this card for one of my Card Exchange partners for May.  I started with an odd envelope and made an ivory card to fit inside.  I chose the decorative paper and then set about making my decorative greeting for the front.  I die cut (Nestabilities) the greeting (SU) which was stamped on white cardstock and layered it onto an orange embossed oval.  Layered next onto a funky oval from my stash which I sponged with yellow and orange.  Next, I added a large label (TH) which I embossed and sponged to coordinate with the decorative paper.  I punched holes in the ends of the label die cut and added a burnt orange ribbon which I adhered to the back of the background using double sided tape.  To finish off my card I adhered this large element to the front of my ivory card.  Still thinking it needed a bit of something, I watercoloured a small butterfly in yellow and added it using a small piece of 3D foam tape.  Better!!          Therese

Christmas cards that feature gift wrap from this season along with some small greetings

Having decided that I will be using my supply of non A2 cards for my personal cards this year I have started on the pile of beautiful gift wrap which came with our gifts this year.   I love the fun vintage vehicle one which was floating around at our Christmas gathering this year.  It was very cool!!  I made two cards with that one.  Just added a coordinating layer, gray ribbon and a small layered greeting.  The other two were created from a lovely barn board paper using small gift

tag elements which came on some of the gifts.  For the top one I die cut the greeting, layered it onto a label and used the front of the tag with the little toque as the main focal element.  Added a bit of stamping and some faux stitching to them before mounting them over the gray ribbon.  For the lower one, I used some coordinating twine I found in my stash and made a bit of nest gluing the ends in the middle and positioned the little greeting over it using 3D foam tape.

I have a few more pieces of great gift wrap just sitting there waiting to be made up into cards.  I love thse cards!!           Therese

A baby card from a card kit - striped paper, star embellishment and a font greeting

This card was made from the last card kit I had from a previous card class.  The two pieces of decorative paper were glued to the brown card front and the font greeting was adhered to the green cardstock strip then adhered over the joint.  The little star embellishment was then mounted next to the greeting!!!  Card kits makes getting cards made really fast so it is worth making a few when you are in production mode to have available for assembly later on.  Purchasing card kits is also a very inexpensive way to get into cardmaking - all the supplies are provided and it requires minimal tools to assemble them.

Valentine cards with some awesome decorative paper hearts

I am working on Valentine's Day cards and found these beautiful hearts in my decorative paper stash!  I have been hoarding them for many years though I have used a few over the years.  There originally were nine on the 12"x 12" sheet.  I have used up the last of them and I am very happy with the beautiful cards they made!!
The hearts were cut from the sheet to about 4"x 4".  As luck would have it I found a coordinating piece of decorative red harlequin paper in my stash!  I trimmed a couple strips of about 1.25" and added a piece to each heart.  I used a variety of ribbons to cover the joint before gluing this layer to my card fronts.  For the first one, I simply added a little gold die cut heart and I was done!!  With no greeting it is a bit more versatile as it can be used as an anniversary card as well.  The next two are very similar in that I added a gold embossed vellum greeting with torn edges.  I attached them to my card fronts using two tiny gold brads.  A short length of ribbon tied to the one on the card simulates a bow.
For the last two, I added a heart embellishment which was created by layering two heart die cuts - one from red velvet paper and the other from gold packaging.  On the left hand card the joint was so seamless that I did not have to cover the joint with ribbon.  I simply embossed my greeting on the bottom strip and added my heart embellishment with double sided tape.  For the other I added an embossed vellum greeting along with the heart embellishment.  I love how these turned out!!

Layered flower with a punchie greeting

I am still making cards for my stash.  For this one I found this flower accent in my stash.  The orange flower had been glued off center so I had been putting off using it.  Yesterday, I decided to try to remove it and fortunately it worked quite well.  I was able to remove it without too much damage and replaced in better position without an visible evidence.  I added a little white button brad to hold everything together.  Love it when it works out!  So, I went looking for a background and found this one in my stash which was given to me by a friend a while back.  It worked perfectly so I trimmed it and glued it to a light green card front.  I added a laser printed layered punchie greeting just below the flower which nicely fills in the center portion of the embossed background.  I did tweak the petals a bit after I put it all together which gives them just a bit more dimension!!

A fun card with a star theme!

I made this card for a friend who has a birthday soon!!  I started with a collage scrap paper background I made a while back.  I used the other half for this card.   I added some burnt orange cardstock to the back then added a piece of brown vintage seam binding to the upper portion adhering both ends to the back using double sided tape.  I tied on a short length to simulate a bow.  I added my layered focal element over the seam binding to the left of the "bow". I created the focal element by layering a brown and gold textured circle of paper below a gold round punchie which was die cut with a star.  I also snipped the edges of the paper circle to give it a bit more texture.  To create the star accent I punched two circles (1.25"), layered them and used a star die (SX) to cut out the star from the center of them   I then layered the silver star in the gold punchie for this card.  I have a gold star in a silver punchie to use on another card.  I layered this whole element onto a beige card front which I had altered with some sponging and stippling with dark brown ink.  I added a layered laser printed greeting which I created using a window punchie (SU) and an orange modern label punchie (SU).

Can you guess what the brown paper circle was before it became part of the focal element for this card???? Leave me a comment with your guess!!  I will be checking regularly and will leave a few hints if it takes too long for you guys to guess.
Looking forward to your guesses!!!
January 11 - Thanks to CraftyD for her guess!!  A cupcake liner is close but not quite there.  Here is a hint - it has housed a tasty treat!!
January 18 - Just wanted you all to know that I have posted a collage button tutorial and it uses another of the items that housed this tasty treat!!  You can check out the tutorial and the other item here.
January 22 - Sylvia has correctly guessed!!  It is the paper wrapper from Ferraro Rocher chocolates!! Needless to say, I have a little collection from Christmas!!

Masculine card with sponging

Another masculine card for my brother!!  He lives in northern BC and I am sure he regularly sees the Northern Lights.  I tried to make the sponging look like them but it was not as effective as I would have liked.  I laser printed the dog sled image (CLKER) on white cardstock, cut it to size and sponged on several colours of purple and blue using the torn edge of a piece of bond to create the layers on the background.  I added a black layer and adhered it to a white card front on which I had already printed the greeting.  I added some coordinating fiber and a layered snowflake accent.

My art - card for exchange

This card was made for my Card Club exchange! We challenged ourselves last month to work with vellum and one of the girls brought her extensive collection of embossing powders! It doesn't really show up well on this scan but the butterflies are wonderfully glittery!!! I had made several sheets of glittery vellum so used a piece on this card!! It was fun to find matching cardstocks and really highlight the fun colour in the butterflies. I mounted the image with 3D foam tape to add a bit of dimension!

I have been working so much on Christmas cards lately that it was good to change it up a bit and think of other options and colours!!

My Art - Cardmaking with screening

For texture and interest I added screening to this card! Yes, regular fiberglass screening!! We always have pieces leftover when we make up our moulds and deckles for papermaking. The laser printed greeting is layered over the screening and attached to the card with the brads. The accent is layered punched shapes - scallop (SU), 1 3/8" (SU), 1 1/4" (SU), 1 1/8" (?) with a little white silk flower ($1 Store) and a silver brad. I added the black dots to the scallop and it was just what it needed to add a little pop to the card. The white embossed layer (CB -Floral Motif) is attached to the inside back of the card. Another #8 card! I challenged myself to make cards that would fit in these #8 envelopes and was surprised to find that it was not as difficult as I thought it would be. There are a few more to come!!
This card could be made up in any colour!! Consider using drywall tape instead of the screening. The fiberglass drywall tape can be coloured very easily with stamp pads or acylic paint to coordinate with your cardstock.
