Reuse photo calendar pages to create cards

 I have reused photos from a 4" x 6" calendar created by my sister, Sylvia.  She creates several different ones every year for sale and I am fortunate to get one for Christmas!! I trimmed the white frame off the photos which left them at 3.75" x 3.75" so I created a backer for them using Corel Draw using several vintage labels (Graphics Fairy) to which I added font greetings in a coordinating colour.  After laser printing them on white cardstock I trimmed them to 4" x 5.25", adhered my photos and then glued these large elements to a coordinating cards. When the photos are beautiful there is very little else you have to do!! These definitely deserve a second life!!    Therese

Another vintage collaged heart card!

In my weekend cardmaking I found this card!!  I created it at the same time I created these but because I had embellished it with iridescent glitter glue I had set it aside out of the way so I would not mess the glue.  What fun to find a beautiful card you had forgotten!!
For this card I had glued the decorative paper (laser printed) to a brown card front and added two pieces of scalloped lace then a taupe ribbon over them to create a nice element long element on my card.  I added the layered scalloped circle - vintage collage heart element over a scalloped circle (Nestibilities), the little colour coordinated laser printed greeting and finally the iridescent sequins in two sizes.  Really happy with how that went and then I embellished the sequins and scallops with dots of iridescent glitter glue!!  I have been adhering the sequins with small pieces of glue dot and that is working really well.     Therese

Vintage birthday greeting on this birthday card

This is another card which I created from a card kit from this week's class.
I embossed this very shimmery pink cardstock and sanded the dots to highlight them.  I added a length of white vintage seam binding and glued this layer to the front of a white card.  I laser printed and then trimmed the vintage image from Graphics Fairy and layered it onto a green rectangle.  I trimmed the right edge with scallop scissors and pierced each scallop with a push pin to add interest and texture.  There was just enough room between the image and the scallops to add a thin piece of white flat fiber.  I adhered this element to the card front overlapping the seam binding.  I tied a short piece of seam binding with a single knot to the right hand side of the one on the card front which nicely simulates a bow.  I trimmed my greeting and flagged both ends, added a green layer and trimmed it to leave an even margin all the way around.  I adhered the greeting to the card below the image using 3D foam tape.
My favorite colour combination - pink and green!!  Love this card!

Cardmaking - Jan - Vintage cards

Don't these look like they were taken from a vintage scrapbook??  I found these great images at Graphic Fairy and thought it would be fun to see if could create cards with them.  I love the soft colours and the beautiful edges.  I had also wanted to try my hand at creating my own "washi tape" so I decided to combine them into a vintage card.  I went looking for a vintage ledger paper graphic or something similar to layer my image on.  Not happy with much of what I found I asked my DH if we had any fullscap, which I intended on aging.  As it turns out, we have a stash of fullscap and some near the bottom of the pile was nicely yellowed and perfect for these cards.  The fullscap is vintage!!  Probably from our high school years!!  I scanned several pieces before I used it, in case I ever need it again - I will be able to print my own.   Once cut to size for backgrounds on a black card front I stamped them in light ink to mimic old faded handwriting - really happy with how that worked out.  Then to complete the look I needed some old looking tape so I created my own vintage looking washi tape using white paper tape.  I will include more info in my next posting.  To finish off my card I wanted a bit of a Victorian greeting but had nothing that would really do, so again I decided to create what I needed.  Combined some neat fonts with some scrollwork graphics from my clipart and I had some Victorian greetings I was happy with.  Now, to get them onto the paper without it looking like they had been added.  I eventually decided to create some vellum stickers which did the job very nicely!!  Check out my next posting for more info on how I did that!!
So in the end, some vintage looking cards that I am happy with!!

My Art - Card exchange

These are my September cards for the card exchange I participate in! Each person sends two cards per month and over six months you get a nice variety of cards in the mail on a regular basis! Nice to get mail!!

I used some junkmail decorative paper and a book page to create these two cards. I like the vintage feel of the papers so paired them with these very soft antiquy looking paper flowers! Added a large brad to the center to attach them to the card front. Used a white gel pen to write the greetings and then used a bit of watercolour to tone them down once they were dry. I am really happy with the way these cards worked out!!
