Sewing - more finished fabric collages

Yesterday, I decided to make a few more fabric collages for cards.  Using my green backgrounds I started with the two flowers - approximate triangles for petals, centers and stems and leaves.  I hand cut the little owl, his belly, the eyes in yellow and black and a tiny yellow beak.  Added a branch in brown for his to sit on.  The rose is five layers of reds.  I started with the smallest one, and laid it on the next colour fabric and trimmed around it and continued to the last red layer.  I trimmed to green leaves.  I pinned the leaves and sewed them in place first and then laid my layered circles over it and started in the center and kept going around until I stitched the outside layer down on the outside edge.  For the leaf I stitched several pieces together to use as a substrate for my leaf, cut it out and added more small pieces into the collage and then stitched them all down using yellow thread and finally went all the way around to highlight the edge.  I used a dark thread to stitch the leaf to my green fabric collage.  Really happy with all of these and will be making up the cards a bit later.  Therese

Sewing - a fabric collaged flower on my fabric collage background

For my first fabric collage on my new backgrounds I made up a yellow flower.  Just cut scraps to rough triangles and laid them in place.  Hand cut a little brown center and then a stem and leaves in green.  I pinned each piece and then stitched the flower in yellow thread one petal at a time.  Then I stitched the brown center into place.  Then the stem and the leaves in light green thread.  Very happy with how that all worked out!!!  More to come!!

Sewing - fabric collages as backgrounds for cards

I made up some fabric collage backgrounds last week.  I started with a scrap of flannel and added a variety of small green scraps and then laid over that a piece of gold tulle before stitching all over it with green thread.  As I went along, I found some strips so I used them across my substrate which gives them a bit of a different look.  Lots of fun and a good use of scrap fabric and ends of thread rolls which are not much good for projects.  Therese
