Card set - Buttterflies and backgrounds!!

I created a few more cards for my friend who was kind enough to share some cardmaking supplies with me!!  These two do not have greetings so will be a little more versatile.
For these two I created backgrounds with decorative paper, added scallop die cut circles and butterflies.
For the green card I started with an ivory card base and added three strips of decorative paper - two the same size for the top and bottom and a coordinating one in between leaving borders all the way around and in between.  I used an embossing folder to add lines and a circle element to the green scalloped circle die cut.  I centered it on the card front adhering it in place.  I added a little silver body to this butterfly (Quick Kutz) and mounted it over the central embossed circle.  These little butterflies were part of a butterfly mobile that was included in a birthday card my daughter gave me a while back.  They are beautiful elements that are working great for cardmaking!!
For the second card I mounted a vintage scrap quilt background which was a colour printed digital image (freebie) from Cathe Holden at Inspired Barn.  I chose a dark green scalloped circle which I distressed with bleach, embossed and sanded and then embossed with a round circle Nestibility to give it an embossed circle element onto which I mounted the butterfly.  Another butterfly from the mobile to which I added a little gold body to coordinate with the gold dots in the butterfly's wings.
Loving creating with a wide variety of supplies using techniques I have not used in quite a while!!

Thank you card for a special person!!

We hosted an event in the last few weeks and one person went over and above to help us out and we are ever so grateful!!  So I made this card for her!!
I started with the watercolour background which I made a while back and embossed it with a flourished floral embossing folder (QK).  I added a length of yellow organza ribbon which came off of a roll of felt which I used for a different project - bonus!!  I adhered the ends to the back of the piece and then adhered it to a medium blue card front.  I watercoloured this little laser printed flower image from Melonheadz in coordinating colours and added a bit of glitter using a clear glitter gel pen to the bee wings and the daisies.  I combined yellow and blue cardstock to create a layer for it.  I added the laser printed greeting to the bottom edge using double sided tape.  I used scallop decorative scissors on the bottom of the greeting and pierced each scallop using a push pin.  I adhered this focal element to my card using 3D foam tape and finally tied on a short piece of the same ribbon to the one on the card using a single knot to simulate a bow!!          Therese

Fun background paper, ribbon and some die cuts!!

For these two cards I worked with a similar sketch.  I used a chevron punch on the left hand card, flipped over the punchies and glued them back into the openings using regular tape.  I love this beautiful double sided gift wrap which I bought years ago in London!!  I layered a laser printed greeting on a black strip of cardstock and added a short length of gros grain ribbon to which I tied another short piece using one knot to simulate a bow.  I glued this whole element to a pink card front.    The right hand card has two pieces of decorative paper with a layered laser printed greeting with the same ribbon treatment over where they join.  I added a butterfly die cut (QK) with its small body and antennae die cut!!  This will work with quite a few of my butterfly punchies!!!  I added it with a little strip of double sided tape in the center to leave the wings free!!
Nice to have a few more cards in my stash!

Two sympathy cards from card kits

I made these two cards up from card kits which I made up for last week's class.  Check out the others here and here.  I used subtle colours on the left hand card because it is a sympathy card.  I did a light blue wash on the background, added three strips of washi tape (tissue paper and double sided tape) and did some manual embossing around the edges with a hammer and a soft flourish embossing folder.  I watercoloured my die cut greeting and mounted it to the front of the card using 3D foam tape.  The butterfly is a digital stamp (SU).
The right hand card features a quarter sheet of decorative paper trimmed to leave a bit of a border on a dark brown A2 card.  I layered the laser printed greeting over a red strip of cardstock and added the short length of ribbon on the left hand side and tied another short piece to it to simulate a bow.  The butterfly is a punchie (SU) which I embellished with a bit of stamping and then added a body from a QK die which features antennae as well.  That will die will come in handy.  Have not used that one a lot but I can see that it works very well with this punchie and probably will as well with several others I have.  I mounted the butterfly using a small piece of double sided tape in the center leaving the wings free!!

A card created with pieces

I needed a card for a family birthday and created this one from the pieces left on my desk after creating this card.   I started by embossing the left hand side of my yellow card front using a QK embossing folder.  I sponged the embossing a bit with read ink and used my stipple stamp (SU) to add yet a bit more texture with the same red ink.  I added the strip of red origami paper to the right hand side.  I love the serendipity flowers!!  I added some sponged yellow punchies in their centers to finish them off and used double sided tape to adhere them to the embossed side of my card.  I wanted a nice prominent greeting and found this one in my stash.   It was laser printed on white so I simply watercoloured it using coordinating colours.  It is a greeting from Birds Cards.  Really happy with this one too!!

Train card for a special little boy!

Our grandson was two on Tuesday and we are will be celebrating with him and his family on the weekend.  I made this little train card for him - he is really into trains at the moment!!
I cut the train with one of my sister's dies a few weekends ago and made up the card this week.  The die is made by Quik Kuts and it cuts all the pieces at once.  I layered the coloured cardstock on the die so I could have all the little pieces a different colour!!  I really like the way it turned out.  I glued all the layers to each other to create the little cars then added dotted lines to them with a black sharpie to give them a bit more definition.  I used a sponged piece of blue decorative paper to create the sky behind the train and layered it onto a green card front.  I stamped the top section with "choo, choo" using an alphabet stamp set and then added the train cars by attaching them with 3D foam tape.  I added the greeting by hand.  On one of my group we have been challenged to add handwriting to our creations and because I did not have a stamp that would fit below the train I decided to give it a try.  I used a pencil to outline the letters to make sure they would all fit and then went over them with a black fine tip sharpie.  I thickened some of the lines by going over them a couple of times.  Not too bad for my first try at it. I was using "Creative Lettering" by Jenny Doh on page 100 - examplar by Lisa Engehbrecht - as a visual for my lettering.  This book has a wonderful array of cool lettering with some instructions and examples to get you started.
Looking forward to seeing everyone and giving him a hug!!

Thank you card

We are fortunate to have wonderful neighbors who have been taking care of our house for us for the last couple of weeks so I baked them a pie and made this card to let them know that we appreciate what they do for us!!
This card fits in a #8 envelope.  I started with a 3.5" x 8.5" piece of cardstock, folded it at 6.25", embossed the short side (TH) and added a piece of blue cardstock to complete the card front.  I added a piece of torn decorative paper which I embossed with a QK embossing folder of flowers and then sponged with both blue and brown inks to emphasize the embossing.  I layered the decorative paper onto a piece of brown cardstock, added a length of brown seam binding which I glued to the card front with double sided tape and then glued my layered colour printed greeting on with 3D foam tape over it.  I then tied a short length of seam binding to the other one to simulate a bow.  I also added sponging in brown to all the edges of the card!!
The decorative paper is one that I created in my experimentation with crackle medium that for some reason did not crackle as I expected!  Will try again!!
